Ah……….the weather is so hot. Just waiting for rains to cool the earth a bit.
Two nights ago it rained for some time; actually it was very early morn. It rained properly not the usual drizzle and for a good half an hour. I didn’t realize at first and I dreamt I was splashing about in the rain. I love getting wet in the rain, and so I dreamt I was out on the open terrace feeling the rain drops fall on me, with my pet dog Jimmy, splashing besides me in the rainwater that had collected around our feet. I saw water logged tracks and roads, bringing all transport to a stand still and people drenched goin back home…...no office today hurrah! I saw school kids’ running back home enjoying the rain and absolutely thrilled by the unexpected holiday (the teachers could not reach school!) There were some harried people too running for shelter from the sudden outpour and then there were the smart weirdos walking around with an umbrella or a raincoat feigning a ready for anything attitude (we knew it would rain and we were prepared!!). There were the few die hard office goers too who were already thinking up alternate routes, share cabs, change 4 buses, walk …..(we have to reach office today important meeting and stuff even if others don’t reach or we reach late in the evening……………….time to prove loyalty to job, what say!! Is that promotion due?)
I could smell the scent of wet soil, could clearly hear the pitter patter on the roof tops and feel the occasional cool breeze tingling on my skin and it all seemed too real to be a dream. That’s when I woke up and found out that it was actually raining with an occasional low rumbling of thunder too. Though there were no children running about, or water logged streets the air felt fresh and cool. The steady sound of rain drumming on trees, roof tops, and streets was pure music.
Sadly it was short lived, everyone waited the next two days for a repeat performance and …………………we are still waiting. Hope the rains grace us soon, it’s about time.
