Learn from them....

Ever read the book 'All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten' ? I haven't either. Anyways I have a faint idea of what it might consist of. What I have here is an idea for a follow up book 'All We Need to Know We Can Learn From Our Kindergarten Kids'. Wait is that already written? Well if not, remember you heard it here first.

It was the first day of school and while we do expect the Nursery totes to cry and bawl out in the unfamiliar place. For a Higher KG kid to cry is a no-no....still parting hurts everybody. We see adults cry at railway stations and airports when there near and dear ones go away for trips. these are barely 5, away from their parents for 3 long hours (thats a looooong trip for them). So we let the older ones shed a few tears if they want and encourage them to get interested in the fun around them.

3 days since school started, a few younger ones still bawl out. In walked a 5 yr. old with his mother. When the mother turned to leave, tears welled up in his eyes, his face fell. "You will be waiting outside, won't you?" he enquired. The mother nodded a yes. Of course we all knew, including the kid, that the mother will not be waiting, she has to go home to drop the elder sibling to the senior school. But the reassurance was needed. He walked in, settled on a seat and winked vigorously trying to stem the tears now forming, then he put his head down and sat queitly. Have you got a sunshine smile...the teacher began singing. Soon all the kids joined in, up came the head, the eyes still wet, he managed to give a most beautiful smile. A few more minutes later he was happily jumping to "5 little monkeys on the bed". Emotions conquered, dark clods passed away. Now how many adults really do manage to hold their emotions, control them this way so beautifully. The kid returned home, happy, joyful. He participated in all the activities enthusiastically, played with his friends, even fought and shared. Wouldn't some adults go around mopping the whole day bcos of a bad morning?
