Movie Review : Gangster

With nothing better to do we decided to see a movie today. Its unusual for us (me n my gang of friends) to see a movie impromptu, yet, we decided to see the most immediate one for which tickets might be available and soon found ourselves standing for the pre-movie National Anthem, the movie …Gangster.

For a 2 hour supposedly “romantic” movie, inspired by some real life gangsta, the most entertaining moments were the snide remarks, hilarious comments, witty predictions being passed throughout the movie by the whole audience (including us).

The main lead Emraan Hashmi aka Aakash was passe’, stuck in another half a lover boy image, the audience were busy counting and betting up the moment when he would start kissing and doing his stuff (u know what that is!). The female lead……some anorexic, wooden, grizzly haired, foreign accented, harsh toned femme who tried to pass off as a Indian bar girl named Simran aka Kangna (that’s the actress’s name) looked a total disaster. As she wobbled around in the skimpy “designer” half clothes, she looked desperately in need of a comb and some Sunsilk curl control. The co-actor, former Gladrags model Shiney Ahuja aka Gangster Daya looked real hot and his voice sounded awesome, but his acting skills (yes just looking good ain’t enough!)..……..…… he was just hamming through most of the scenes. There was this one particular scene where he begins to cry earnestly saying “I can’t live without you Simran” and the whole audience simply burst out laughing. Not quite a convincing actor. As for the story ho-hum…. been there, heard that, could ‘ave predicted that……don’t forget to keep your brains aside as you reach the end of the movie.

The saving graces of the show……some melodious songs, a few good dialogues, some interesting backgrounds, AC hall (best enjoyed on a hot sultry summer afternoon), enthusiastic Mumbaikar audience and samosas (try Cinemax, Sion for that, the cheapest and yummiest on their list).
