Think about it.......

Book Read - Shashi Deshpande’s Collected Stories

I just finished reading Shashi Deshpande’s Collected Stories Volume 1. Good writer. While her stories ranged from simple sweet ones, some boring ones, to intense ones, but each story does makes you think. You can (if you are a woman) relate to them to some extent. All stories are gender specific, most have been written from a women’s point of view. Doubtful whether the male species could relate to it or accept it.
The stories are basically about men and women and the relationships they are "trapped" in . The Liberated Women is about a women who is very successful in her career and looked upon as a role model by the society but in her personal life is abused and accepts it as inevitable. There is the story of a young girl who cannot comprehend why her being born is a curse. One story is about a newly-wed couple who barely know each other and their dramatically differing ideas about what it is to get to know each other. .........
Worth a read definitely

Some interesting lines……….

“We need to invent our own truths. How else can we live with ourselves?”

“Love- how often they use the words in books and movies, how carelessly people fling the word at one another. But how wary we are of the word in real life!”
