Think about it.......

On a Reading Spree…..

Once in a while I do that. Seem to catch up on a lot of reading altogether. So for the past few weeks I have been reading and reading……. started off with two Harry Potters as some light reading and then moved on to P.G. Wodehouse, Tom Morris, R.K. Narayan, Gajra Kottary, some English plays, and ………the two I found most interesting……. Michael Frayn’s comic play “Noises Off” and the classic Emily Bronte’s “Wuthering Heights”.

Noises Off is a comic farce, a play within a play, wherein a comic play is being rehearsed and performed. The personal lives of the ensemble mingle with the actual play and the results are hilarious. This play was enacted on stage successfully abroad and made into a movie too, in India, I remember reading about the play being directed by Atul Gandhi.

Wuthering Heights is a Victorian classic, a high end dramatic story of love and hate. It could easily be made into a dramatic TV soap. What is most interesting is the way in which it is written……. most compelling, keeps you hooked to the story. Though the English used is a bit hard to understand some times, still it is what gives the story its true essence. The main character Heathcliff is both the hero and the villain of the story. Reminds me of Daphne Du Maurier’s “Rebecca”.

The reading spree hasn’t abated yet and for the next two weeks I have Dan Brown’s “Da Vinci Code” (yep!! I haven’t read it yet!) and “Shadow Lines” by Amitav Ghosh, plenty to keep me busy.
